What is Family Circle?

Family Circle is the center and locus around which New Calling is organized. A democratic body of all members of the church, this council doesn't just meet to discuss issues regarding the church's business but literally helps determine the church's path and mission. Animated by the spirit of Acts 1: 15 - 25 and Acts 2: 42 - 47, the church shares all things in common and exercises guidance over all its affairs.

The Family Circle structure is taken directly from the workings of the ancient church and it helps promote church unity, cooperation, and collaboration among its members. Family Circle takes as its main mantra the appeal of St. Paul found in 1 Corinthians 1:10: "[...] that all should be in agreement and that there should be no divisions among [the church], but that [the church] should be united in the same mind and the same purpose."

To that end, all baptized members of the church, regardless of how new they are, have a right to attend and speak at Family Circle meetings. All voting members have a right to submit Family Circle requests (see below for document download) and submit them to the church secretary to bring the issues found in those requests to the floor. This structure makes it easy for every member of the church, from the pastor all the way down to the back-bencher, to plan an event, hold a fundraiser, or make a positive difference in the community, so long as they're willing to speak and partner with fellow members. There is no end to the difference one person can make when every member of the church can be the agent of change themselves.

Beyond all of this, New Calling makes it simple to participate in Family Circle with easy-to-access online resources found right here on our website. Below you will find downloadable documents for almost any action you might take in Family Circle, along with video tutorials on how to download, fill out, print, and return those documents. You will also find proxy voting forms in case you will not be able to make it to a Family Circle meeting, a copy of general Family Circle rules for new members, and a fully interactive calendar detailing all of Family Circle's (and indeed, the church's) upcoming events.

New Calling also has a library of fully downloadable PDF copies of all Family Circle requests passed in every Family Circle meeting since we opened our doors. Individual Family Circle members or those members new to the church curious about joining in on Family Circle meetings will never be a step behind.
